Twilight.. Thumbs up or Down?

Last night a group of us from the ward went to the midnight showing of Twilight. Like most of you I had my apprehension. Especially after seeing pictures of the cast. Edward is not as gorgeous as I thought, Carslisle is too wimpy, and the rest I thought were ok. Now going into this my expectations were pretty low. To me the movie is never as good as the book. Over all I enjoyed it. I wish they could have added a bit more content to the movie. They only thing that really drove me nuts was the lack of conversation between Bella and Edward before they fell in love. Now, its has been well over a year since I have read the book. And I think that was a good thing. People who had read it recently weren't too impressed. Im sure I will buy the dvd when it comes out and I might see it again next week with my sisters. With all this being said I give it a thumbs up.

I pretty much felt the same way you did. I think they missed the mark on some of the dating romance. I think they definately should have showed the meadow scene better. Not just the random shiny skin part and then the ball game. But all in all I think they did really good. I also thought most of the characters were good except I didn't like Alice. I just pictured her differently. He movie Alice had a michael jackson nose. haha.

Anywho, congrats on the housing offer!! That's so exciting! You're in escrow. I've always wanted to say that. I understand not wanting to get too excited but I will be crossing my fingers for you:)

TWO HUGE THUMBS UP! Nathan really liked it too. I've seen it twice already -- i'm a total geek, i know. Any time a book is made into a movie stuff it never translates perfectly. How do they put a 500 page book into 2 hours? They have to combine a bunch of scenes into one to at least get the main sentiment of the story across. And I think the lack of dialogue actually worked well for the movie. There was so much dialogue in the book i think it would have been impossible to pick and choose what to use to fully expose what they felt for each other. I think they did a good job bringing what they felt for each other to life despite the lack of dialogue.
I too though was almost totally disappointed when Edward showed himself in the sun and it wasn't the meadow scene. but then they moved to the meadow and it sort of worked. I just couldn't have believed the author wouldn't put that scene in since it was the basis of her whole book.

Amber,

I felt the same way as you did. All the sudden Edward and Bella were madly in love! Some things were a little off, and I don't think I would have liked it as much if I hadn't already read the books and fallen in love with all of the characters. I would have to say thumbs up. I'm sure I'll see it again, and hopefully the next one will have a bigger budget!
