FHE

We have been doing FHE with Gavin now that he is 3 and can sit still for at least 5min....ok maybe 3. Its so funny how much he loves it. He asks everyday if its Family Home Evening. I have to share these two things that happened with F.H.E..
Last week he found some change on the ground outside. And he was so excited. I thought what a perfect time to get the idea of tithing in his head. So, we sat him down and this is how the conversation went.
Me - "Gavin you know Heavenly Father has given us all the things we have (aka: money, toys, gum (he's on a big gum kick right now) all the trees and animals) So, we give money to the bishop for Heavenly Father to say thank you.
Gavin - "NO, I don't want to give them money"
Me- (trying to think of another way to rephrase) "Well, Gavin the money we give them will help to build new churches, like the one we go to and temples"
Gavin cuts me off and says,"and snacks at church?"
Me - "UH, yeah snacks at church"
Gavin "OK, I'll give them my money"

Then today Gavin found Spencer's missionary tag. He knew when is saw it, it was for a missionary. So I put it on him. And he walked around the whole day say hi mommy Im a missionary and he would shake my hand. He has always loved the missionaries. Probably because they were around a bunch in our prior ward since Spencer was the ward mission leader. So tonight's lesson Missionaries.
Spencer told him that the missionaries teach people about Jesus and the prophet. And when he is tall, tall, tall he can go on a mission. Then Gavin said,"Oh, I want to be a missionary!" Spencer proceeds to tell him that missionaries ride their bikes everywhere. And Gavin's reply "OH, WOW WEE!!!"
I sure hope he keeps up this enthusiasm for church.

Great post. He will not have "enthusiasm for church" because he'll have something better, he'll have a true love and connection to the Savior, his family and to his spiritual self. This post is wonderful because it shows you setting the right example and consistency from the beginning. I think many people "wait until the kids are old enough to understand" which, of course, means by the time you try to institute regular FHE, etc. it's too late because they're like, "Ummm...boring!" Anyway, thanks for the post and the laughs. I love children! Oh, and I hate Twilight, but anything that gets people reading is cool with me! (;
