The Bahamas

WARNING- this is long (my journal-ish of the trip)

This year is a big year for us. We have our 5 year anniversary in August and both of us are turning the BIG 30 at the end of the year. So we wanted to do something exciting to celebrate! So we ended up flying to Florida to do a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas. Our friends the Plotkin's joined us. They were fun to be with Im glad they were able to come.

(Kathy, Jason, Me and Spencer)

Day 1
We embarked the ship around 3:00 Monday afternoon. As we walked around and checked out the ship we noticed the spa was having a really great deal on massages. So Spencer and I were lucky enough to have a couples massage done. We finished just in time to see our ship depart. Then back to our room for a much needed nap (we had been up over 24 hours, we had a red eye flight to Florida). We had a delicious dinner followed by a fun evening. Spencer and Jason karaoked. They are the reason why you go see people karaoke, full of energy and off tune 1/2 the time. LOL. Then we went by and checked out one of the clubs, they were having a dance off. We were all dancing and the next thing we knew Spencer and Jason had been chosen to be in the final 3. What a set up, seriously the were THE only white guys in the club. They were such good sports about it and danced their butts off.

Day 2
We were at sea all day on Tuesday which was nice to sleep in, lay out, swim and eat. What else do you do an a cruise? We had the Captain's Ball the night. Which meant formal night. It was neat to meet the Captain and crew. I also enjoyed getting a little fancy. It doesn't happen often. And the best part is that Spencer and I had a picture taken by one of the photographers on the ship that turned out so good, we now have a 8x10 of it. Later that night we saw the funniest comedian! A nice way to end day 2.

Day 3 Grand Turk Island
We had to be up early to head off to our excursion. We of course had to snorkel while we were in the Bahamas. So, we did what you call "Power Snorkeling". They give you this hand held machine and it pulls you through the water while you snorkel. I will never snorkel any other way. It was so much fun. We saw a sea turtle, a few barracudas, and all different kinds of beautiful fish. After we hung out at this HUGE lagoon pool that was right next to the Margaritaville restaurant. Then we check out a few shops and headed back to the ship. That night they had a Vegas style show with singers and dancers. I wasn't terrible impressed, but entertaining non the less.

(Looks like a post cars, huh? That is where we snorkeled)

Day 4 Half Moon Cay
This is sure is what heaven is like. The most beautiful beach. We took the day to just enjoy the beach. Spencer and Jason made a sandcastle. LOL. They had quite a few admirers. Half of the staff from the boat got off to cater us lunch on the Island. That evening we had a yummy dinner and I even tried escargot. Not terrible but I probably wouldn't have it again. I must say that every night for dessert we all had this chocolate molten cake. It was truly delicious.

(buttery escargot)

Day 5 Nassau, Bahamas
We were up early again to get off and go to Atlantis. Its is a HUGE, really HUGE resort. That has an amazing water park. Where Kathy and I swam with the dolphins while the guys enjoyed the water park. If you are ever at Nassau. You must go to this water park. It was incredible. They had a lazy river that took about 20min to go around once. Then they had a few water slides that take you through a fish and shark tank.
A little side note. Many of you know I LOVE dolphins. When we went on our honeymoon to Cancun we did the same sort of thing. Went to a water park and then they had an area to swim with the dolphins. Well, when we came home from our honeymoon my car was stolen before I had a chance to develop our honeymoon picts. That's right. We have no picts of our honeymoon. So, this time I was determined to get pictures of me swimming with the dolphins. Can we say strike 2? We weren't able to bring cameras out with us to take picts. But of course they have their photographers......the cheapest package to buy $60.00. But I took a few picts while we were waiting for our group to go.
We were planning on leaving Atlantis around 3:00. So we could stop by some shops and pick up some souvenirs. Just as we were finishing our loop around the lazy river the kicked us out. Apparently a storm was coming in and they shut down everything. By the time we left there and got to the shops it was pouring rain. Then by the time we got ready for dinner it was clear skies.

(This was part of Atlantis. It was like a museum)

(Spencer and the jelly fish tank)

It was so nice to spend quality time with Spencer. We really need to get away more often. It was nice to fall in love all over again.

P.S.- My friend Karen just asked who watch my kids. And I feel so bad that I didnt say. My sister Rachel came over to our house and watched the boys while we are gone. She is going to be an incredible mom. Im so lucky to have her around this summer. The boys love her so much and ask for her all the time. We miss you when you are gone at the Y. Love ya Rach!

Yay! It looks like you guys had fun and the pics are beautiful. I'm sad for strike 2 with the dolphins... That 'power snorkeling' sounds interesting, I think I'm gonna have to try that sometime! :)

How fun! You guys looked like you had a blast. Good for you for getting away.

The place we recently stayed at is called the Worldmark Resort in Indio. It is a time share, we bought time off a friend of ours who is a member, it was VERY affordable. We found that members sell time on ebay, there are some great deals, like $70/ night for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo. Can't beat that! We are looking forward to going back.

Looks like fun. I had to laugh at the dance/karaoke part, memories of New Years Eve came back with the Plotkins and our American Idol contest, lol. Wish I could see the dancing though, I bet that was really funny! Glad you had such a great time...I look forward to our getaway anniversary weekend every year!!

I know all about that chocolate cake you are talking about- that was my favorite almost every night on my cruise. Looking at your photos makes me want to go on another one soon.
